Tarot Tuesday
Who doesn’t like to start a new year off with a bang? The fireworks image I sent last week was intended to transmit bursts of light and love. I didn’t realize until this morning—this reading—that I was guided to select that image as a metaphorical precursor to the message that would be arriving regarding the year ahead.
Wowza, wowza, wowza! 2023 will bring many explosions of varied nature and many will involve the juxtaposition of masculine and feminine energies. Although this is not a statement about gender, we will see clashing between the sexes as well as among nonbinary communities in efforts to restore the balance of powerful energies. But that aspect is only one piece of the overall picture that’s emerging.
What is the big picture meaning and how does it relate to you?
I asked, “What does the Collective need to know about the coming year?” Here’s how I interpret the cards:
The Thinking Man: This card was a jumper, meaning it fell from the deck while I was shuffling. A card in this position influences the entire reading with its energy. Possible meanings: An educator; spiritual, mental, or business guide; masculine thinking; the patriarchy.
The Garden & The Gate: In the left, or initial, position this indicates the energy we’re bringing in to this year. The woman in the flourishing garden is experiencing (or desiring) abundance and peace but she’s behind a locked gate. Around her neck she wears a key that can open the gate to the world beyond. There’s comfort and safety where she is, but the world outside looms mysterious and inviting…what yet-unknown adventures, riches, and knowledge lie outside her sanctuary?
Hostilities: Here come the fireworks. In this position, the card represents current energy. Hostile? I’m sure for some that rings true right now, but this reading pertains to the whole year. If it’s not present in your life now, it will be—most likely within six months. The aggressive energy may be verbal, emotional, or even physically threatening in terms of safety. Hostile energies are not necessarily personally directed; you may feel threatened on a collective level as a result of patriarchial system practices.
The Sun: If you sucked in your breath reading the previous paragraph, you can let it out now. The Sun represents new beginnings and abundant creativity. In the third position of the spread, it indicates a favorable outcome, blessings, and Divine Light.
My intuition leads me to believe the essence of this reading indicates massive change is ahead, both on individual and collective (global) levels. This interpretation is not based solely on today’s reading. I’ve been feeling impending upheaval for months.
The cards in this spread for the collective is merely confirmation to me that the change has its roots in the planetary need to restore the Divine Feminine to its rightful position. Again, it’s not about men vs women or gender at all. The Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine are present in everyone. When they’re balanced within, a peaceful person emerges. It’s no different on the global scale.
Looking at how the cards presented, a masculine card called “The Thinking Man” jumped out at the onset. To me, that’s the ultimate presence of the patriarchy—always trying to control outcomes.
Next, a feminine card about abundance, growth, prosperity, and nurturance. Followed by a very masculine card picturing an aggressive warrior—possibly trying to prevent the feminine from emerging. Finally, The Sun appears representing the ultimate balancing energy—Divine Light. This card, numbered “1” in the oracle deck, indicates the oneness of Spirit, humanity, and all living things. And it bears the undeniably feminine essence of birth and creation.
Will all this upheaval, change, and restoration of balanced energies be wrapped up in a pretty bow at the end of 2023? I’d love to predict yes, but astrological and other predictive influences indicate we’re likely to experience periods of eruptive energies through 2026.
To guide us toward a positive, peaceful resolution, I’ve added the Peace candle, hematoid quartz for grounding and balance, and a rose quartz heart for Divine guidance.
Will we get that pretty bow of completion in 2026? The change is inevitable. How change occurs is up to us, individually and collectively.
