Tarot Tuesday

Several weeks ago I participated in a holistic fair as an Intuitive Guide and Tarot reader. I showed each person I faced a dish with colored stones—the seven chakra stones—and asked which one spoke to them. The vast majority selected the blue lapis, stone of the fifth (throat) chakra. When told that they selected the stone of the throat chakra, every one of them revealed they felt they had something important to say that was as yet unspoken.
Whether they were unheard at home, at work, or in the world, these individuals represent a significant portion of society who feel the pain of having their voice, the tool of their expression, repressed.
Now of course, this is hardly a scientific study. Yet I saw almost 50 people individually over the course of those two days, and more than 80 percent of them were experiencing sensations of not being heard or not having a voice.
It’s not too much of a stretch to overlay this small group’s experience on the current fabric of emotional energy in the United States and globally—especially for marginalized populations.
You’ve probably seen the “Contents Under Pressure” label affixed to various products with the words and symbol for “Danger” or “Warning.” Perhaps, like me, you feel that this applies to our current societal and cultural situation as well—that the pressure has become too great, and the lid is blowing off our collective container.
In this scenario, we might want to look at what ANSI, the US governing body for safety standards, has to say for guidance: “A ‘Contents Under Pressure’ label is a useful tool to help protect the health and safety of staff, and is not a substitute for necessary protective measures for lessening or eliminating hazards.” (Italics added by author.)
So I asked the cards: What are the protective measures we can take to lessen or eliminate hazards to our innate desire and right to express freely within our personal environment, family, community, and workplace?
Here’s what the cards revealed:
8 of Inspiration: The card shows women in motion moving forward. Certainly appropriate, but it can represent any group or individual with strong feelings, ideas, or intention. This is the energy being brought into the present. It suggests momentum and the wisdom of going with the flow. You don’t need all the answers or solutions to go ahead. It also suggests that action speaks louder than words, and that the energy to stand up and step forward has already begun. You need only to step into it.
The Magician: Ah, here’s where the alchemy happens. As much as we might wish for a fairy godmother to wave a wand to make it so, the Magician shows us how to combine the real-life ingredients of wisdom, imagination, power of the collective, and focused intent to create the potion for change. In a bit of a twist, the Magician reminds us to seek the truth and not be distracted by illusion. She urges us to steer clear of manipulative forces and misuse of power and instead create an environment that serves the highest good of all. Where to begin? Any magician or witch will tell you: The first thing magic changes is you.
4 of Emotions: This card appeared in the reversed position. I keep all my cards upright since I believe the duality of our planet is ingrained in every situation anyway. So when a card appears reversed, it’s a sign to me to pay attention. And indeed, the upside-downness of this card is exactly the energy that can prevail if you heed the Magician. Upright, the card shows a woman turning her back on three glasses while bemoaning her lack in her one held cup. In reverse, this card suggests that she’s seen the abundance available to her and let go of the idea of lack. Any situation can shift that quickly with a simple change of belief about what is available to you.
Freedom is the idea whose time has come, once again, begging for expression.
I’ve placed kyanite, a grounding crystal, beneath each card. Green supports your heart, blue strengthens your throat, and orange births your desires into form. Shine your light for the world to see, feel, and hear. Other lights are looking for you, waiting to join you in illuminating the world.
Speak your truth today.
I have upcoming Tarot reading events scheduled for August and October in the Asheville area. If you’d like a personal reading before then, consider booking a Zoom reading. For a few extra dollars, you’ll get twice as much time and won’t have to leave the comfort of your home.
Until next time… my best, Shelley
