Tarot Tuesday

Balance is a word that’s frequently bandied about in our culture, usually in regards to lack of it. We work too much, eat too much, do too much. We don’t spend enough restful time with family or alone in nature. We pay too little attention to the physical self and its needs—all leading to our personal and cultural systems being out of balance.
Today’s reading is the result of asking, What does the Collective need to know today? I drew two cards and in this reading Card 1 (Balance) represents the “what,” and Card 2 (Journey) represents the “how.” That both cards are number 7 in their respective suits is also significant.
7 of Forces. Balance. All situations that are out of balance are caused by disconnection from our inner source. We know it, but ignore it. Excuses fly that we’ll return to better habits when this crisis or situation is over. After a while, it becomes a way of life. In our culture, being exhausted and overworked has become a badge of honor instead of a distress signal. If we’re this busy, we must be important, right? And if we’re not, we’re lazy or unambitious.
But our bodies know better. Our physical selves send signals: headaches, upset stomachs, injuries caused by not paying attention, illness, and disease. These are all symptoms of being out of balance with ourselves and nature.
The 7 of Forces is here to cue you to stop ignoring the signs and take heed—this is the “what” we need to know.
The “how” is equally important.
7 of Roses. The Journey. This card represents the action(s) you can take to restore balance and harmony in life. Yes, it could mean take a vacation—and this is the time of year when many people do—but that’s just a temporary fix. If you groan when the plane hits the ground on your return flight and the thought of going back to your normal life makes you sigh or feel a twinge of despair, all the benefits of being away start to diminish rapidly and before you know it, you’re back to the same old, same old.
To me, the journey this card is asking us to take is the journey home to self, to your heart, your soul. To reconnect with your inner guidance, which is also calling to you with signs and symptoms like longings, inspired ideas, and heartfelt reactions to things that make you happy.
Meditation and time spent in nature or in joyful activity are journeys of the soul that help bring about balance. Specifically, connecting to Earth energy, whether physically or mentally, is the key to staying personally balanced regardless of outside circumstances.
Grounding or Earthing involves being physically outside with bare feet or some uncovered-skin connection to nature: walking on grass, earth, or sand; swimming in a natural body of water; and touching trees, plants, and soil are all possible ways to connect with Gaia. Scientific studies confirm the benefits of removing artificial surfaces (shoes, clothes made of synthetic blends) between our bodies and the Earth.
You can also connect mentally via your senses and body’s energetic system. In addition to the seven chakras, or energy centers, you have a grounding cord at the base of your spine that energetically connects you to the Earth. You can picture your cord as a thin thread or as wide as a tree trunk. The energy connection between you and Gaia may be subtle (meaning you have to pay close attention to feel it), but it is powerful in nature.
The most beneficial journey you can take to produce long-lasting feelings of inner peace and connection to self is to meditate and ground yourself energetically to Gaia daily.
A very simple practice that anyone at any age can do is to sit quietly, close your eyes, breathe a few centering breaths to focus your attention on self, and mentally let your grounding cord drop into the Earth. Let it push down through the surface, the crust, the various layers deep into the center of the Earth, home of Gaia.
Visualize your cord sprouting roots to anchor you. Then feel Gaia’s calming, nurturing energy rise up from the Earth and into your body via your feet, legs, and grounding cord. Start a circle of energy flow from Gaia through your lower body: On inhales, bring up cleansing, positive energy, and on exhales, release any negative energy you feel down through your grounding cord into the Earth, where it will be purified and transformed.
The significance of 7
From Numerology.com:
“Though spirituality is especially important to the number 7 in Numerology, it takes a more intellectual approach to life than an emotional one. It is an analytical number that enjoys gathering and filtering through information to find answers. Still, it has a more powerful intuition than you might expect, which it uses as a guide. This combination of conscious and subconscious thinking allows the mind of the Numerology number 7 to shine a light into the very deepest realms to access hidden truths.”
In regards to this reading, having both cards be a “7” is an indication that the advice given is not to be taken lightly. Number 7 asks us to use our senses and intellect to guide us because one is not more important than the other.
Balance, in this reading, is our ability to stay connected to our core values while using the intellect to guide our actions. The Journey is the trip inward we take to stay true to our soul and grounded in our chosen earthly purpose.
I’ve balanced the reading with candles supporting your lower chakras (grounding) with amethyst, the stone of the upper chakras (intuition and connection to Spirit).
Sometimes despite your best efforts to clear and balance your energy, blocks remain keeping you feeling ungrounded and vulnerable to the energy of others and outside circumstances. If that’s the case, you might want to have a private reading and intuitive healing session to identify and clear the block. Until next time… My best, Shelley
