TODAY
Have you been looking for me or wondering where I was? Yeah, me too.
It’s not that I couldn’t connect with myself or was unsure of my purpose. I just didn’t know where to put me… didn’t know where I belonged. Fortunately the Universe never loses sight of these things and has done a good job of teaching me to surrender to my instincts and simply follow along.
Several months ago, a friend called and asked me to stay in his home in Mount Dora, FL with his cat while he traveled abroad. At the time, I was tempted to politely refuse the generous offer. But although the resistance was there, a far stronger power within me said, “Go. You need to go.”
So I did. And I am soooo grateful for not overriding that intuitive voice pushing me to say “yes.” There was no way at the time I could have foretold how much I would need the time away at precisely the chosen days . But when the time came, I knew exactly why this “miracle” vacation had been presented.
Without delving into the drama preceding my trip, events in my personal and professional lives made the opportunity to put some “distance” between me and the daily discomfort with the chaos that was invading my space a most precious gift. It may seem odd that someone who lives and spends most of her time alone needs to “get away from it all,” yet the value of changing the environment in which one is marinating cannot be underestimated.
Imagine, if you will, spending seven full days just sitting in a Zen garden outside your kitchen door.
Yup, that’s pretty much what I did. I saw a few friends I knew in the area, made a new one, and was gifted 90 minutes of Thai massage. I took walks around a beautiful lake under a canopy of moss-hanging foliage.
And I spent quality time with Max, the cat, who seemed as appreciative of my company as I was of his.
The result of this glorious time of deep, almost-uninterrupted contemplation? Peace, clarity, and the ability to make a difficult, but much-needed decision with total confidence. Everything I had been unable to see and do in the confusion that engulfed me at home.
I share this with you today because I know I am but a tiny microcosm reflecting the whole of the Universe and everything in it. As our world is in the chaotic confusion of transition, so is everyone on the planet in some way. The collective energy of Earth and all life is moving, changing, evolving to a better place, but it’s a rocky road out there.
I urge you to also take a “big picture” perspective, which can be challenging when you’re in the thick of unpleasant circumstances. But the wisdom that emerged during my time of connection was this: Let go. Give up the illusion of control. Stop planning next steps. Allow the Universe to do its job and trust that something good and sacred will guide you to where you’re meant to be. Instead of trying to figure it all out, be present to what’s happening in the moment.
The present is where I belong—and so do you. And it’s the one place we almost never go or take up residence. Yet, the present is where the magic happens.
I returned home and implemented the decision I made in Mount Dora. Almost immediately, an totally unexpected offer that probably would not have been made had I not followed my intuition came through. The possibilities are as infinite as the Universe.
I hope this transmission supports you on your journey. Until next time…
My best, Shelley

Hi Shelly, I am returning to Sundance, Utah August 1-6 and I am inviting special friends to join me. I have rented a house that I have stayed in previously and I would like you to be my guest. You just need to fly to Salt Lake City and Uber to the resort. It's about 45 minutes away.
I'm asking my guests to contribute towards our brunches and any meals we have at the house. The only other expense would be horseback riding, fly fishing or zip lining should you book it. I know you will love it. My Pan Am roommate from training, Ann Marie is coming. She has been to Sundance a few times. This retreat is a thank you to former retreaters and an introduction to new attendees. I love sharing the beauty of Utah with others! I hope you will come!
